In the Hot Rumor of the Day, Tom Cruise hooked up with a cougar back in the day! Cher tells Oprah Winfrey that when she was 39 she had a fling with a then 23-year-old Tom Cruise. Cher said their relationship could have been a "great big romance" but their filming schedules got in the way. "I was crazy about him," said Cher. "He was shy. He said he felt like such a boob in school and nobody talked to him. We went on a date once for dinner in a New York restaurant and the waitress was from his old school. He told me she never talked to him back in school, but now he was recognized he got all her attention." Cher claims the affair lasted several months, but ended when Cruise met Mimi Rogers, who eventually became his first wife.

Last night on American Idol, the five remaining contestants did the Neil Diamond songbook. And they each sang two songs, so the format was all messed up. Each contestant did one song without any commentary from the judges. Then they each did their second song, followed by comments from the judges on both performances. After the first round of performances, Ryan Seacrest asked the judges to give their quick impressions on the show up to that point. Randy went first, then flipped it to Paula. She started with contestant Jason Castro, and went on to critique both his performances, even though he'd only performed once at that point. Yes, she’s crazy, but here's the deal: Before the show goes on the air on Tuesdays, all the contestants do dress rehearsals. The judges watch those dress rehearsals and they take notes on those performances. That way, they don't have to come up with all their comments immediately after the "official" performances. Obviously, the format change confused Paula, which isn't even hard to do on nights when the format isn’t changed.

The injury that Cristian De La Fuente suffered on Dancing With the Stars Monday night turned out to be a ruptured tendon. It'll require surgery, but Cristian has decided to postpone that surgery so he can keep on dancing. And he will stay on the show because despite having the lowest score from the judges, Shannon Elizabeth will not continue. She and Derek Hough, were voted out last night. They appeared on Jimmy Kimmel’s show immediately after and Derek didn’t exactly deny their romance off the dance floor. He said, “We’ve had fun on the dance floor and I’m sure we’ll continue to have fun off the dance floor. We’re good friends.” Jimmy responded, “I’ll take that as a yes!”

Rihanna and Maroon 5 will team on a remixed version of Maroon 5's "If I Never See Your Face Again," the updated edition destined for re-released versions of both artists' most recent albums, Good Girl Gone Bad (due June 17) and It Won't Be Soon Before Long (due late June), respectively. A video for the revamped "Face" was shot last week in Los Angeles. I'm sure we'll have it on Zoo TV before too long!
