Mariah Carey showed up at New York City's Tribeca Film Festival over the weekend with boyfriend Nick Cannon and what looked like an engagement ring in the Hot Rumor of the Day. Her reps won't say if it really was. When asked just how he feels about MC, Nick said, "I can't even know what to say. She's probably the most festive, remarkable person I've ever met. Nick actually bailed on his own premiere to be here," said one source. "He didn't do any press for his film, 'Ball Don't Lie,' and came to see Mariah.” They held hands and stayed by each other's side in the VIP section of the night club at the after party. Nick, who appears in an upcoming Carey video, has been cozy with Mariah in at least two previous outings. While Carey won't comment on the Cannon rumors, she's all too willing to publicly profess her love for Jack, her Jack Russell terrier. “I'm in love with my dog," said the singer. "He is my special someone. I love spending time with him."

American Idol is suffering through its first major ratings decline in its seven-season run and last Wednesday's results show was the lowest-rated episode in five years. It's not an emergency, since Idol is still, by far, the most-watched show on TV. But, Fox and the show's producers are brainstorming some possible improvements to keep it fresh. One of those ideas may be to cut out the weeks of long, drawn-out audition shows. Instead, the season would begin with the Hollywood round, and they'd show audition footage here and there until the actual, live competition started. That concept was floated to a recent Idol audience via a questionnaire that also asked the following questions: "Is the banter among the judges too much or too little?" and "Do you want to see more of host Ryan Seacrest, or less?"

Britney Spears will be back on How I Met Your Mother to reprise her role as Abby. According to the synopsis of her episode, "Barney, played by Neil Patrick Harris, and Abby realize that they have one thing in common, their mutual hatred of Ted. The new 'couple' decides to go to the bar to flaunt their new relationship in Ted's face. Desperate to get a rise out of his former pal, Barney pops a surprising question to Abby." Surely, it can’t be THE question, but the episode with Brit airs on Monday, May 12th on CBS.

ER is adding star power for its final season. Angela Bassett will join the cast in the fall. She will play a troubled physician who's coming back to Chicago after a few years in Indonesia doing tsunami relief. Noah Wyle will also return for the 15th and final season.

Juicy J and DJ Paul of Three 6 Mafia will guest star on Numb3rs on CBS. The episode will involve the complicated murder of a rap star. It airs on Friday, May 9th at 10:00pm. Three 6 will perform their new song, "Lolli Lolli (Pop That Body)", on the episode. It's the first single off their upcoming album, "Last 2 Walk".

“Baby Mama” star Amy Poehler is about to be one herself. The Saturday Night Live regular and husband Will Arnett are to become first-time parents. The baby is due in late fall. The couple have been married since 2003.
