In the Hot Rumor of the Day, Eva Mendes has committed herself for a substance abuse problem. She's at the Cirque Lodge in Utah (the same place Lindsay Lohan went to). Actually, she's been there for a few weeks already, but the official word just came down on Friday. Eva's rep said she needed to, "proactively attend to some personal issues that, while not critical, she felt deserved some outside professional support."
Britney Spears will not be leaving the UCLA MedicalCenter psych ward today. Her 72-hour hold has been extended to a two-week stay. Britney's psychiatrist would have to be the one to make that call. But apparently, Britney can still get out early if she legally demands to be released, or if her doctor decides she can handle outpatient treatment. Unlike during her 72-hour hold, Britney can now be forced to take medication. Meanwhile Britney's parents are back in control at least temporarily. Her dad, Jamie Spears, was awarded "temporary conservatorship" over Britney and her estate on Friday. But it was only scheduled to last through the weekend, meaning the arrangement could change yet again at a hearing scheduled for today. Jamie and Lynne also asked for and received a temporary restraining order against Sam Lutfi. That means he's out of the picture for now. The order is good for 22 days. Britney is furious that her parents swooped in, took control and cut Sam out. Sam, for his part, says he has nothing but Britney's best interests at heart. He added that Britney's parents are, "incapable of telling the truth and incapable of sympathizing." He added, "I have no more respect for the family.” On a possibly related note, someone stole some, "valuable possessions" from Britney's house sometime late last week. The alleged theft occurred sometime between when Britney was admitted to the psych ward early Thursday morning and when the papers were signed giving her father control. No one's saying exactly what was taken. Police haven't listed any suspects yet, but I’d like to note that Sam had complete access to Britney's home until the courts put her dad in charge. Hmmm…
Over the weekend, 50 Cent was performing at a Super Bowl party in Scottsdale, Arizona. During his show, he name-dropped Paris Hilton, who was standing in the front row. She was one of the hosts of the event. Well, Paris took that as an invitation to jump up onstage with Fiddy, but that he wasn't having any of that. He shouted, "Get the (eff) off the stage!" This reportedly reduced poor Paris to tears. Ha!

On Friday, the Spice Girls announced that they're scrapping all their dates in Australia, China, South Africa and Argentina, and ending the tour early. In a statement posted on their official website, the Spice Girls say, "Sadly the tour needs to come to an end by the end of February due to family and personal commitments for Emma, Geri, Mel B, Melanie C and Victoria. "Due to the phenomenal demand for tickets in the U.K. and the U.S., along with the touring logistics for such a massive production, it was not possible to fit everything in." However, they didn't rule out picking up the tour sometime in the future. The post continues, quote, "As the girls return to normal family life and the kids go back to school they are reviewing all the options, who knows what the future might bring!"
Hannah and Miley did it, they dominated the box office! Something to note, The Best of Both Worlds Tour was only released in about 600 theaters, when other films like Jessica Alba’s “The Eye” was out in nearly 2400 theaters across the country. Eva Longoria’s flick, “Over Her Dead Body” debuted at #11 making just over $4 million. Here are the top 5:
1. "Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Tour" $29 million
2. "The Eye" $13 million
3. "27 Dresses" $8.4 million
4. "Juno" $7.5 million
5. "Meet the Spartans" $7.1 million |
